I recently had the pleasure of photographing this lovely family at Lickey Hills, and with three boys to photograph, I knew we were going to have plenty of energy!
Family photography doesn't have to mean getting everyone to sit still, smile at the camera and behave perfectly. In fact, some of my favourite photographs are the ones that happen when children are simply allowed to be themselves.

Lickey Hills is such a lovely place for an outdoor family photography session. There are plenty of trees, open spaces and little paths to explore, which means there is always something to do between photographs.
For this session, we kept things relaxed and allowed the boys to walk, play and interact with each other rather than spending the whole time standing in one spot.
With three children, there are naturally going to be moments of chaos, but that's part of what makes family photographs feel real. The funny faces, the little interactions between siblings and those moments when everyone forgets the camera is there are often the photographs you'll treasure most.

Photographing three boys definitely keeps you on your toes!
Rather than expecting them to behave perfectly for the whole session, I work around their personalities and energy. Sometimes that means getting them together for a photograph, and sometimes it means stepping back and letting them do their own thing.
I want children to enjoy their photography session rather than feeling like they're being told what to do for an hour.
We captured a mixture of photographs during this session, from the boys together to smaller moments between them and their parents. There were plenty of smiles, plenty of movement and lots of those little moments that show what this family is like together.
Relaxed family photography in Bromsgrove
This is exactly why I love family photography. You don't need perfectly behaved children or a picture perfect family to have beautiful photographs.
My family sessions are relaxed and adapted to the people I'm photographing. Whether your children are shy, full of energy, or somewhere in between, I'll work with them rather than expecting them to fit a particular idea of what a photography session should look like.
